Duplicolor primer

Ok forum got another question. What is the diff in primers. I was wanting to keep a HD tank from rusting before i had it painted. Went to auto zone and found some Duplicolor self-etching primer good for bare steel, fiberglass, and aluminum. It layed on the surface great. Was just wondering would this duplicolor primer be good enough for custom paint to be laid on top off. They also have some primer promoter for the abs fairings and saddle bags that i have. It would sure make things easier on me than trying to set up a spray booth in my shop. Thanks for any help. Booggerbe

save your painter the hassel and just leave them alone. If they are going to use a high quality paint material they would never paint over rattle can primer.if you are thinking it will save them from surface rust don't worry about it most reputable painter will sand blast metal parts before they go through the paint process.just my .02

Don't just leave them alone. Once rust gets started, chances are you'll never completely remove all of it, and you will have continued problems. Spray whatever you like on there. Tell the custom painter what it was you sprayed. If he doesn't like it, or thinks it will create an issue, he'll take it back down to bare metal and start over with the proper product for his own application.

An Adhesion promoter is a good idea for plastic parts, nut, if you're sending them to a painter, there's no good reason for you to do anything with them prior to that.

If it's going to be awhile until you get it done, just use the spray can primer for temp use.
if you are going to get it done quickly, just leave them raw, but handle them with care (don't touch them!)
The above is if you want to strip them yourself...

But...I would just let the painter take care of them.

if i know that i'm not going to get to the paint job in a while, or their's high humidity and i'm going to let them sit a day or two. i'll use that duplicolor just as a temp. rust inhibitor just like is being said. but before i paint it, i'll remove 99% of that primer and put what i know will hold on it. you just don't want to mess w/ the custom paint, or have to do it over because of some crappy material.

so i agree w/ spraying on, but telling your painter what it is and why you did it. cause i as a painter would rather remove a thin layer of primer than a large layer of rust. rust can come back and bite you!

Thanks Taz, for the imfo. I am just waiting on better weather here to start all my priming. Ill strip the rattle can paint off when i start my priming. You are the painter that is going to paint my Harley parts. As i told you ill have them ready soon. OOOOOOOOoooooo should i use another type of primer other than the Maxx 2k on the raw front fender before using the Maxx. Thanks again Booggerbe (Ron) here in tenn.
