It is good paint but it's like everything else,it has it's followers.I'm a PPG man and liked Glassurit before BASF took it over.I hear it's gone down hill.Sikkens gets very high ratings from those that use it,but since I haven't used it or House of Color I really can't say. Both are highly praised though.PPG seems to be more widely used than anything from what I see. These are all urethanes though.I have no idea about the enamels and DuPont lacquer sucks (if you can still get lacquer). The best lacquer made was RM,which I think falls under BASF now too.American Lacquers-who made Amerflint-had a black lacquer that was pure black, not a blue cast like RM or green cast like PPG.Never did get to test it's durability.

I like DuPont products for the most part. I like thier acrylic enamel (don't use it anymore but just for signs). Thier Chromabase/clear is nice to work with, predictable and durable. The Ultra Productive clear is very nice for motorcycle and other small parts, as it kicks of in only a couple of minutes! I realy like the RM paints, even eassier to work with than DuPont and I like the shine, it seems more "sophisticated". Never liked PPG, always had problems with it, either too soft or poor sheen and not very durable. I had one single stage urethane PPG job that you could indent and scrape off with your fingernail, it had good shine, but felt like 600 sandpaper. Won't use it again. I have gone almost exclusively with RM, unless I need it quick and then I use Sherwin Williams (NAPA, Martin Senior) because they are local.

Hey Motornoggin,is RM still packaged under the RM label? How's Squirley Williams nowadays?I remember alot of peaple loved their Sunfire instead of Imron, and I thought their Ultrafill lacquer primer (P2A 43 I think) was the best around.Used a little of their early bc/cc on the side and it didn't impress me,but it wasn't bad either.

REX, yup, still packed as RM/Diamont. I like it, very predictable and easy to use. Ol' Squirly Willms' is o.k. if I'm in a pinch, but I won't use it for anything but sign work and then only acrlylic enamel. I have an aquantance that uses Sherwin Williams on all his Hot Rod work, he doesn some nice stuff! I'm told one of his Rod's paint jobs won some kind of prestegious award along the lines of the Riddler or AMBR or some such. I guess it can't be all that bad, eh? I recently sprayed some Imron for the first time on the side of a boat. Thought it did well considering some of the stories I've heard, time will tell though. Nowadays I find myself useing only RM epoxy primer and bc/cc, made my life much easier. I even will go the extra to prep a job to use this instead of something quicker.

ive been in the truck business for a while so Dupont is what we use.Imron 5000 2000 and 6000 is the norm. 5000 and 2000 are a single stage with 6000 as the bc\cc.2000 is new and i have a first hand useage with it and i love it.
Its durable and flowes out better than the old 5000. Chroma base is a great product with some work. Its very thin and no room for errors. But with good prep work it wont do you wrong. I have found with all dupont products, you need to add pressure to them. use the cans specs for a guidline only.hvlp i spray about 5 psi higher and non hvlp 10 higher.play with it and you wont be sorry.

Thanx Noggin.I haven't seen SW or RM for over 13 years since I move here.RM wasn't bought out yet and Miracryl was getting a following.Of course I still prefered PPG (surprise

) but it wasn't bad.Technically it doesn't matter whose line you use,as long as you know the product line and it's friendly to you.The finished jobs all come out the same pretty much if you compare them apples to apples.

REX, I would have to agree. As long as you are comfortable with the system you're using then they all are capable of rendering excellent results.
