What are the difference between these? Can I use the nason base coat and do my flames with the centari basecoat?

I believe you are right Joe.
I think Centari is a acylic enamel and Nason is a synthetic enamal. Both are a single stage though, not a basecoat clearcoat (or unless they came out with a bc system).

You're both right.I believe Nason did get a bc line a few years ago to compete with the Omni crap.I never used it,but I remember years ago Electro Bakes on the east coast bought Nason by the 55gal drum in about 7 or so colors and made a color close to the one on the car.I got a kick out of getting one and seeing a line of finger dabs in the jamb as they tinted it.Hell,I thought jambs were extra

Well aparently someones wrong because I have a nason and a centari base coat clear coat right in front of me. I just sprayed the base and I am getting ready to clear coat.

I was just wondering if I could use one with the other? They are both dupont. I can scan a copy of the labels if ya want me too.

Thanks

Curt, wouln't be the first time i was "wrong ". i am wrong every day of my life, but may be you should check into a little deeper in what your talking about. Centari is the Single stage paint line for DuPont

i do know that much i dont care for dupont thats why i havent touched it for about 12 years now, except for the occasional low budget job at the customers request, but may be they have changed things around

.As far as Nason goes , never heard of it so never used it so i dont know any thing about it.Isnt Duponts BC/CC system still called Chroma base?

As far as I know the Chroma system (urethane) is still around.

Curt,I didn't know Centari went to a bc/cc system, but if it's in front of you I guess so.The problem lies in the fact the Nason is an alkyd enamel system (at least last I knew) and Centari is acrylic enamel. They very well could be compatible according to Dupont,I don't know.I did have someone have me use an alkyd enamel generic hardner in PPG acrylic enamel on a county truck and it worked fine, but it killed about 50% of the gloss. No biggie for a piece of crap old work truck, but I never did it again.Good luck on your job. Most people are using urethane now and haven't played with the enamels for a long time,so our answers are based on our experience from over 10 years ago.I personally won't touch the stuff any more since it's ancient technology no matter what they do to it.

Centari was the first paint I ever sprayed with. This was about 1984. Only used it a few times after that. Back then is was just a single stage enamel.

Remember the old Amerflint paint?
SuperMax (my old favorite)
Limco (Lift co)
Or how about BC (we called this Butchers Choice)

Sorry if I got across wrong. I didnt mean any disrespect or anything. I dont know much about anything when it comes to painting. I am a newbie. I just sprayed my first car. Maybe they dont make it maybe my buddie put the wrong label on it or something. I dont know. all I know is it has BC/CC written on it. I havent tried it anyway.

Thanks for the input though.

Curt,no problem man.Sometimes the labels run out and they use another, but they should have clearly marked what it is if they didn't use a different size label.

Scott,stop it,I'm having flashbacks

I learned on Supermax in a butcher shop and single stage Deltron was new-that was the $299 special.Loved both but Supermax wasn't quite right using generic hardner, you had to use the Starrock hardner.I loved the high metalics in Deltron (this is when the mix was 1-1-1).It layed down beautifull and didn't streak or mottle hardly at all.The Amerflint was great until they changed the formula in the late 80s.After the change it just didn't seem to have the gloss or lay down like the original early80s stuff.Believe it or not I worked in a paint store in Stuart for a little bit that was owned by the 2 grandsons of the inventor. They were Espositos but I don't if their grandfather had the same name. They started with County Auto Paints in West Palm and bought Coast in Stuart and whatever the store on US1 in Ft.Pierce was.I was told it was a lacquer based urethane but couldn't figure how they mixed them. They told me when their grandfather started the buisness he drove to the shops and had all the tints and supplies in the back of a stationwagon, that was the buisness.I thought that was pretty cool to go from a stationwagon locally to a nationally known product.I sprayed Centari and Imron twice and didn't like either, and around the end of the 80s got stuck with some Chroma Base.It was ok but I liked PPG better, but nothing touched Glassurit.Man was that 54 line great then.

I MIX DUPONT ON A DAY TO DAY BASEIS. CENTARI AND NASON IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. NASON IS 10 TIMES WORSE THAN OMNI AND IT DOES HAVE A BC\CC SYSTEM. CENTARI IS A ACRILIC ENAMAL SINGLE STAGE NO BC\CC FOR IT.IF IT SAYS CENTARI THEN SPRAY SOME AND SEE IF ITS A BC OR SINGLE STAGE. ALL DUPONT BC \CC SYSTEMS ARE ALL INTERCHANGEABLE. JUST USE TH RIGHT SYSTEM COMPONETS. CHROMABASE CANE BE USED WITH ANY OTHER BC SYSTEM.
