I use dupont express when i can, and i love it, but i am in a cool climate. you may want to try and wait longer between coats, to be sure the clair is dry enough. solvent pop hapens when the solvents in the underlying coats get trapped under a coat of dry clair and they leave tiny holes where the solvents excape..... i think!

good explination Aircooled,
the other cause is from hosing on the clear. Duponts clears are suspose to be real thick,
Havent used any of their clears yet. PPg person.
I would also say that if you use a too cool of a reducer the surface skins real quick.also causing solv. pop

I was hoping a DuPont fan would help you.I haven't touched their stuff in 10years or so but if you're still getting 7600 see if the 7500 is still around,I loved it.It's slower and is a little thinner but still a 2 coater. If they still don't use reducer try going one step slower on the hardner in the 7600.PPG came out with the 3000 speed clear and everyone is having pop problems and throwing reducer in to help mask a problem.Run a slower hardner and forget their instruction flash time,do it the old way.Around the time it pulls strings put the next on.You'll have to experiment with if it's when it starts to string or or it's fixin' to stop. With the 3000 I try to slide my finger across the clear,if it slides wait, when it starts to grab my finger I wait about 1/2-1 minute and throw the next one on.This is a little more accurate than the string test.Haven't had it pop yet and everyone I know is still fighting it.This stuff is real fast though and I only use it jambs. It makes me nervous when they say you can put a coat on 2 panels and start right back with the next coat.A little too fast for my likin's.

I mix paint for a Dupont jobber and have used several of their clears. They have 2 different 7600's. Theres the regular 7600S and the HC-7600S. I've used the older 7600S and it orange peels quite a bit. I've also used their 4700S and came out with quite a bit of peel. There isn't anything wrong with the clear, it is made to peel to match the factory finish. I suggest using Duponts V-7500s or the newer version, 7900s. Its a thinner clear that seems to lay down a lot nicer if your lookin for a smooth finish. It's also not as aggressive as the others so you can use it on a sensitive substrate.

thanxs rex and chuddy ! ive been apply the 7600s like u said.... before i read your post rex i kinda figured out how to spray this stuff. i apply the second coat when the first coat is still stringy it seems to melt in alot better. there is also and additive for slowing it down a bit. i shoot alot hoods, tailgates and door blends ,fenders etc. im still gonna try the 7500s again thanks for reply /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bigokay.gif

Formally and also known as rmt 1and 1

I've been a Dupont user for years, also hok and ppg.
If you really want a good dupont clear that won't work you to death and leaves a beautiful finish, try the 72500 appearance clear. Sands great and goes on nice and smooth. Its actually become my favorite clear. Of course that's just my own personal preference.
Good luck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Hey Rickster..I'm having the exact some probs with Dupont clear & I use to like the fact that 7600 sprayed well for me, but dried in under and hour & getting it to flow and buff was a bit of a bitch. You can use that slower hardner etc, but it still is a fast drying clear. Well anyway I had lots of problems with craters and solvent pop in the 4500 clear...doubt my solution would be of any help to you, but I switched to HoK clear (it's actually cheaper for me than the DuPont clear where I get my paint) & after getting use to spraying it I'm loving it, plus it smells so freaking cool!!! Whoops not suppose to sniff the stuff... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif naaaaaah I just smell it a little while i'm mixing the stuff...Once you get use to adding the right amounts of reduce you can tweek it to get the results you want. I also believe it's a thick clear, but you have to lay a thin sticky tack coat down first and wait about 10 minutes before laying your thicker coats on...not a problem for me in order to get a smooth surface, less orange peel and no craters!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bigokay.gif

Hi guys, this is my first post but I spray Dupont products for a living so here goes.
Try dupont's G2-4700 clear,1.5 hour air dry, 3 different hardner speeds to get just what you want for speed.
This is a thick clear but you can over reduce by 5% or so and it doesn't mind.
I have used up to 5 coats to bury my work by increasing my flash times to 20-30 minutes depending on how thick i'm going.
hope this helps.: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bigokay.gif
