dust

hey guys, im running my paint booth out of my garage, its a 3 car garage, and i took about half of it. i have a 4 foot fan, that isnt very powerful that sucks everything out and sends it out the back door. all of the walls are in 6mil plastic and i have a mixing table and my tool box in there. i also built a filter setup to go at the bottom of the garage door so i can close it. everytime i paint, seem to get dust in the paint and clear. i tack rag, wet the floors, and try to take every other step that i can to keep the dust out. any reccomendations on what i should do to eliminate this dust problem?

do any of you know how i can set up a fan or build a fan setup to suck out more air? one of the blades on my 4 footer broke off, so i am down from 4 to 2 blades. and my 2 foot fan doesnt blow enough air.

I think you need to have a pretty even inflow/outflow balance. If you have too much air sucking out of your booth, it'll just end sucking dust into your booth. At least I think that's right. I remember reading a post a few months back about this.

DOUBLING UP YOUR FILTERS MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST THING TO DO (DEPENDS ON YOUR FILTER SIZE AND HOW MUCH AIR IS GOING THROW YOUR BOOTH) BECAUSE IF YOU DONT HAVE ENOUGH AIRFLOW YOU WILL GET DIE-BACK, TAKE NO OFFENSE BUT MAYBE YOUR NOT CLEAN ENOUGH NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TAKE A SHOWER AND BLOW YOURSELF OFF FIBERS FROM YOUR CLOSE OR DUST PARTICLES FROM YOUR CLOSE CAN STILL BE YOUR PROBLEM.... A CHEAP WAY TO MAYBE FIX YOUR PROBLEM MIGHT BE TO INVEST IN ONE OF THOSE NYLON PAINT SUITS MY PAINT COMPANY PROVIDES ME WITH ONE MAYBE YOURS WILL TOO.

PLUS SINCE YOUR FILTERS ARE SUCKING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BOOTH IE...WHERE ALL THE DUST IS I GUESS THEY COULD BE YOUR PROBLEM TOO

1 thing that I have learned from cicuit board production enviroments is that, clean rooms are a positive pressure place to be in. I use a 220 volt suction squirrel cage fan thats filtered from the outside. I wash the poop out of my shop with a hose, turn the fan on and get air flow and then clear. I think air flow is most important when painting so the paint cures correctly. Someone post something about solvent pop recently and I think lack of air flow causes this as well.

maybe i should build a taller wall for my filters to get them off of the floor. and then i will try a different fan and see how well it works. thanks for the help.
