Ive got a fender stand that i built using the instructions on here. But i was wondering the best way to go about getting the underside based and cleared. I suppose just paint and clear the underside, while sitting upside down on the stand, and then once that is dry flip it over and paint the other side? Let me know if im on the right track

Mitch,
I simply lay it on a table, spray the underside, then the next day, I am ready to do the outside.
A two step process, but the only way we can work it right now.

This is why you need the overhang of the air cond rubber covering on the metal slats, to help prevent any damage to the paint on the underside of the fender .

Any input on how to make these stands better is very much appreciated. This is the main reason why I put it up there. I simply gave a jump start and something to go by for everyone to take a look at and maybe even better the idea. You know, 2 heads are better than one idea.

Let me know on this.

With out hanging parts i think that is the only route to go i even paint the tunnels on one piece tanks a day in advance then i can focus on the remainder with out worring if you have enough material on the underside (tunnel ). Scott i am painting that 1 piece tank tomorrow i will let you know how the piece of 2 x 4 on the stand works.

Mitch, unfortunately it's a 2 step process if you strip the bottom.I strip the part and DP it,then blow some black singlestage over the inside surfaces.Sand the outside and scuff around where you will get or want the outside color.Like they said, hanging is the only way to do it in one shot and the parts will move and spin on you making it difficult. You can also do the undersides in color.Just outline the folds of the fender or do nothing (grey scuffy the area paint might hit)and let it blow in far enough to suit you.I'll have pix of my stands soon but there's still blind spots.they were set up so you can get visible coverage but the mounting spots are whatever you decide as an initial protection.I see undercoating and gravel guard used on the inner surfaces, but paint or gravelguard are best.
