I am restoring a car and have it down to the metal and it had some suface rust on the floor pans and some of the sheetmetal and some pitting and corrosion uder the windshield my local dealer sold me etching primer to put over the bear metal but he didnt sound very sure of himself and didnt sell me any of the activator reducer that this product says to use in the directions. so i am questiong his knowledge of his products. the product he sold me is dupont 491-17 etch prime, is this what I need and is there something to put on those corrodid spots after I get the scale off of them. any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the Flames Board!Ya,you'll need some Nason 491-43 activator/reducer with that. After you etch prime, you should use a 2k primer over that.Since your doing the whole car,I reccomend "Painters Pride" brand of high build primer,I'm useing it now on a 74 Monte, works great.57 bucks v/s Dupont at $145.At any rate, you need to make sure all the rust is gone completely otherwise,it'll come back.Either get a small sandblaster or grind it out.If your looking for rust protection on the rust spots, once clean, the etch and 2k will be fine,if your looking to fill and smooth after,I use Evercoat brand of fillers.Hope that gets your questions answered and ask away,Jim
