fading flames

Is there a rule as to which color goes on first when fading flames. Do you start with the tips and work to the base or vice a versa. Also do you paint all the flames the first color then add the next and paint the rest of the flames, then the next......Thanks this site is very cool and helpfull. First post and flame job. I usually start with the lighter color, then work my way to the darker color. Sometimes I paint the complete flames the "first" color. If you have a big set of flames (like on a car), you really don't have to paint the complete flames.

Also, it might be helpful to paint the flames complete with the first color because is will make a great "ground coat" under you next color. This will help paint buildup.
