If these pix don't show there's a link a few posts down. They exceed the host's limits pretty quick.Couldn't get a side pic of the tank in the lighting I had.Very unusual layout on the tank but I was experimenting and wanted something different and unusual.By the time I got to the left side I was really burned out and losing time to get it in clear, that's why they're so uneven. The flames are seriously ghosted but that was the look I wanted. It's funny to see people catch a glimpse and start moving all around to figure out what it is.The tank still needs to be lettered at a later date by the guy that did the angel. The tank might get redone if they don't grow on me soon.Cool color though,it gets pretty purple in the shade or florescent lights and goes blue in the sun.Sorry for the huge tank pic but reducing it loses distinctness of the flames.Hope the artwork doesn't offend anyone.

Sweet! That's a nice blue, I wish I could see the flames a little better on the monitor but I bet it looks cool as hell in person.
Nice ***s

Killer detail on the wings. What kind of airbrush do you use?

Thanx Kev.I was screwing around with pics and locked up my hosting site for the day for exceeding my space limit.I'll have to fix it tomarrow.Unfortunately I didn't do the artwork but wish I could.Believe it or not only the body shading and boots are airbrushed, the hair, wings, everything else is done with a paintbrush. If I still have the full sized pic I'll trade them so the detail stands out so you can tell.He does some awesome work. The flames do show better in person but not alot.really all thats on the top of the tank is the flame licks and tips, all the body is on the sides for the licks you see.

Thanx Jim.There are a few flaws though in the tank.My buddy talked me into trying his clear gun on the last 2 coats and I'll be darned if it didn't spit a few chunks of hardened clear on the left side of my gas guage-Son of a .....!Of coarse they sank in far enough and were small enough I couldn't pick them out and could only level them out so now I have 5 white specs in a cluster. At least they're hard to see parked on the stand.Ah,the joys of painting

Thanx again.

Hey Rex,We are our own worst critics!I always have a habit of pointing out my flaws when I do something,no matter how small,My wife hates that. You bike looks great! Here's what I've been working on for the last six years,It started out as an 83 FLHT aka "dresser"Rusted jugs, pitted aluminum, cracked fiberglass, really rode hard and put away wet.I stripped it to the frame, molded all the nasty factory welds, raked it to 34 degrees with 2in over tubes.I did everything myself except the motor and trans which was rebuilt by a Harley mechanic.Everything else was rebuilt or replaced down to the wheel bearings. With the help from you guys,I even painted it myself. The side cover needs a repaint but all in all I'm pretty happy with the results. The violet pearl flames look brighter than in the picture. When standing behind it,all you see is black, guess I just wanted to be differant.I've added some unbaffeled fishtails since the picture,Love the sound of those shovels!!

Hey Jim.Amen on picking your own work apart, everyone says I'm anal about it but I've always thought if I'm gonna do it do it right. The scooter's very nice, excellent job.Did raking it hurt your handling around town at all?Looks much better raked though.Looks like you have the fat grips too,man I hate those skinny grips.I know what you mean about different too as you can tell by mine.At least yours show up in a picture. So when's the truck get flames?I have to admit I stuck 1/2 the baffles back in mine, evryone compained when I twisted on her and I'm not known to be a woos on the throttle. The Daytona dictators are coming down hard on open pipes too and handing out tickets as fast as they can write them.Daytona wants the bikes gone so they're being d**ckheads.Take care and ride safe

Rex,No hands at 65mph!Drives great but,I sure make alot of 3 point turnarounds.LOL So far I think it was worth it,If memory serves me,It was stock at 28 degrees and a softail is or was at 34 degrees that's why I went 34.I lowered it 1 1/2 in the back to level it out.
I like the grips but had some on other bikes I've owned and the foam comes loose after awhile. But they do take some of the vibration out and you don't get off the bike with numb hands. It is definetly hard to stay off the throttle with those fishtails!!!What do you think?,airbrushed blue candy ghost flames for the truck?I think I better get a few more paint jobs in before I tackle that.
Thanks for the compliment on my scoot!Keep the rubber side down,Jim

Jim, long live the Shovels. Nice scooter. I know what you mean when you say we are our own worst critics i have the same problem in the worst way. Violette pearl dose not photograph well at all, i had pictures of a paint job i did back in January and the pictures almost looked blue, it depends on the lighting i guess.Whats a baffle?

Yeah, the blue pearl sounds like a nice ghosting.Should look great under street lights.I know what you mean about the foam grips,I tried them on a dirtbike years ago and tore them up.They're a little pricey (about $70-80) but I love the Harley printed leather grips. They have a little padding and aren't bad on a rubber mount at all.A few of us rode 15 hours straight to Mertle Beach and my hands never bothered me,but the butt was starting to get sore those last few hours.SAC makes fat leather grips that seem to have a little padding in them but I think they cost a few bucks more. They have all kinds of patterns and inlays too.I take up almost 2 lanes turning around without walking it and My rake is stock too.Seems to me 34 or maybe 32 is about right for a Softail, and someone told me my Wideglide is a touch more.Have no idea though since I can't find any published data.Take care.

JIm , ill post a couple of pictures during the week. My wifes sporty has the Show treatment, painted and chromed, just about everything that can be chromed and whatever isnt will be over this winter. As far as my FXSTC its just black and some chrome, pretty much for GO. Its about as built as can be running on pump gas. But i have another set of sheet metal i paint on a regular basis and it never makes it on my bike
haha.gif
( remember us being our worst critics
mad.gif
, this is just proof of how bad i am )I have promised my self that come next spring my bike will be sporting a new "skin" hint
wink.gif
Rex, as far as rake goes back in 1997 when i bought my Softail i believe the FXSTC had a 34 degree rake and the next closes Rake was the Wide Glide at 32 degrees, i dont know about the newer bikes though becouse of the change in the Softail frame design. i think the Deuce might have the largest rake now. Any way let me get to sleep so i can try to sleep off some of this head cold, yes Rex i went from heat stroke to a head cold in just a weeks time
haha.gif
, if it wasnt for bad luck i wouldnt have any luck at all.

Thanx for the rake info man, you'd think it would be published somewhere.Sounds like the ST is pretty bad.I'm dying for a set of Branch heads and a cam much hotter than the EV3 but I think we're going to buy the wife's parents property and fix it upThere goes building a hotrod for sure and I'm pretty sure I'll be in the dog house dumping more into mine for a while.I need a garage bad and these stupid carports down here are a joke to do anything with.Just a matter of time and money.Hope you feel better soon.Knock on wood I think my run of bad luck is over for a little while, but you know it always comes back around at the worst possible time
frown.gif
I'm waiting on pix too, take care.

I found the info in the Harley book back in 95 or so,it's the one that shows all the new bikes for the year,I think HD still puts one out every year,It has all the specs.Softail at 34,heritage was at 32,and baggers at 28.I'll have to find a newer book and check if they still list them. The 21in tire on the softail levels it out so it didn't have to be lowered but,it looks better down low.I always hated that gap between the tire and fender looking like a dirt bike.Well,EZ hope you get better soon,Rex,good luck with the real estate venture,Ya you too Scott, thanks for a kick *** web site.Again guys, thanks for your help,I'll be checking back every now and then in preperation for my next paint job.I'm already sick of looking at the violet and I know I could do a better flame pattern.Take care and ride safe!Jim
P.S.3months with gas in the tanks and the gas fillers still look great! No lifting of the paint!!!

WOW!!!!!! I see it... All that talk about licks got me goin too! If you ever find tongue prints on that angel they will be mine!

I like that blue.. and the faint flames.... I like the faint details as you may recall... I did Liberty that way..or tried to.... I guess I did as most folks miss it..... Not that anyone really looks hard at old yammi's.... But when some one does see it, they have to work around the pic to see it..... I get a kick out of that if i see them....

I had a hard time taking a pic, and getting the light right for you guys to see Liberty, as that does not stand out very well in normal lighting... In bright sun light she about disappears into the back ground....

Both bikes look great...... I know what you mean about flaws, but as time goes by I can find fewer of them myself....

Presently I will be making another start to finish photo album for the cage (Volvo). I will do that in the general heading...... I started the project yesterday, and took pics, but have not down loaded them yet to the puter....

So long as I will be begging info, you guys might think about a way to do something to make this project unique? I am interested in doing some slight something to make a volvo stand apart from others...... Some how I don't think flames would do on a volvo wagon though...

The days of murials is gone, and so are the hippy days thankgod! So all of that is out!

I have not decided what color the car will be yet, but I am liking that Dodge blue alot, and also a yellow swamp green GMC, Ford, and Subarru are using currently.

The problem with greens is my carpets are blue, but perhaps there is a way to change that.... Anyway.... I am still lurking..... and great angel....... wicked nice bike(s) Mac
