Finished my bike...finally.

Finished it up last night, and wheeled it out in the yard early this morning to get some pictures. I haven't officially finished, since it hasn't been started up yet, but the paint is done. Technically this is one of the best jobs I've done, but I'm not particularly pleased with the design. Oh, well...I'm not going to start over. Riding season is starting here in Kansas and I'm ready to go.

Hmmmm. Don't think I'll enter it in a show, but I might show up on Sunday. (Gotta work Fri and Sat.) If so I'll let you know and maybe we can have an eyeball and tell some lies.

Awesome job. Even if you are not happy with the design the quality of the job looks top notch.

One D*mn fine looking sporty you got there. Being that you're in KS, I'm assuming that's an MCworkx frame?

Very nice job.

Nice job Definetly a head turner.

Since you have such a beautiful bike, I personally think that you have a debt to society by allowing people to view this bike.

You've got a nice bike man, put it in a show when you get a chance, you may be suprised by winning some honors.

Whatever you chose to do, ride long and ride safe!

Wow Andy.... looks really nice and clean. The design is kind of trippy and I like it. Looks like wings or knifes blades. Very original and sorry for the interpetation but, didn't you do that in art school. Pick apart Picasso or ink blots. I need to send you a really funny word doc..... "I am better than you". A guy picks apart 5 year old art.

Maybe you have seen this before. This is good and go to the second page, it gets better

Also, I like the original paint job as well. That is a classic look that will never go away.

Your work is outstanding. I don't get the "I don't like the design attitude." That design helps make the bike unique. Great job and congratulations.

Heeeey Stinkie,

Your right, the design sucks big time. Since it is apparent that you are a man of high caliber and it would tarnish your reputation to be seen on a scooter such as this, just ship it my way. I ain't got no caliber nor a reputation that could be tarnished.

Hahahaha!

Deal! It's in the mail.

(We've all heard that one before.)

Actually, I shouldn't have said I wasn't happy with the design. It's fine...it just wasn't what I had in mind when I started. You've probably had it happen to you, too. Sometimes a project gets a mind of its own and you can't control it. That's what happened here. My intentions were to have red, white and blue flames. I used a couple rolls of fine line tape trying to get it right...even sprayed one set of flames and sanded them off...before this design showed up. Figured I couldn't control it, so I might as well go with the flow.

BTW, my kid turns 23 years old this summer, and he wants a bike now. Found a '94 Sportster that is mechanically sound, but a cosmetic disaster. Got a real good deal on it. Now...if we can just find someone to paint it! Ha. We're gonna shoot some black on it just to get it so he can ride it without having to wear a paper bag over his head. This winter we'll attack it with some flames and do a decent job.

We're gonna ride to Sturgis this summer. About 800 miles from the Kansas City area. Oughta be a good father/son activity. I can keep him from drinking too much, and he can keep me from...from...well, heck...I'm so old I can't even remember what it is I shouldn't be doing there! That should make my wife happy.

Hey GC! Just checked out your profile and it says you're from east central Illinois. I have family in Bloomington...you live anywhere close to there? I keep threatening to ride the bike out there. Might stop by and say 'hi' if I pass your way.

Andy, just throw some black sealer or something on it for now, flat black goes with anything for a holdover color.Don't let the wife know what happens in Sturgis,if it doesn't come back to you you're son will remind you

If you walk into a bar and you get a feeling you're out of place, turn around and leave. The gangs still have their clubhouses they rent last I knew and they're almost always off limits.Stick to the normal kicking watering holes and you guys will have a blast.

Thanks for the input. You put into words what I wasn't able to. I must admit that near the end I was rushing to get it done and didn't pay as much attention to the "big picture."

I was an art major in college. I found that artists (and all of us flame painters are true artists) occassionally work with a project so long that we get tunnel vision and stop 'seeing' the overall project. Getting a fresh pair of eyes to look at it often helps. My professor would come up to me and say, "Sheesh! That sucks right there!" and point out some glaring problem that I was wrestling with. (He really did say things like that, too.)

Sometimes I'd simply put the painting or drawing away for a month and go back later and have better results. Too bad we can't do that with a motorcycle or car. Well, I guess we could, but who wants to have your bike lying around in parts for an extra month!
