Finishing Techniques

I was wondering how many different techniques of color sanding and buffing people were using. I do all my color sanding by hand starting with 1000 on the real bad spots and then 1500 and then 2000 - When I get to buffing I use 3m rub compound and the glazing compound with their respective pads -- I've heard about colorsanding with a DA and was wondering if it's worth it and if it works good on bike parts -- Lemme know what you're using -- Yea, you too Scott!! LOL!!!

I pretty much finish the same way Bones. One thing I have started using after the med cut rubbing compound is the 3M Finessit Finishing Material. This stuff is a micro-fine rubbing compound and will remove 1500 grit sand marks. I follow that with the Finessit Finishing glaze then Imperial Glaze. A long time ago when I did cars/trucks, I would use a pneumatic jitterbug and wet sand body parts. It worked good just keep water flowing over the body while you sand. I might try this on a rear fender I've finished, never used this technique on bike parts. TC

Start with 1500 then 2000 wetsand while running water over it with a hose. 3M rubbing compound then finessit all by hand no DA or electric buffer on the bike parts. I started using the buffer on cars recently. I guess my age is starting to show and my arm wears out too quick. Almost 30 now

I start with 1500, then go to 2000 then a 3000 then I use maguires system high cut cleaner(usually a 8000 grit paste), then 2.0 swirl remover then finish with thier yellow wax(a drop for the whole bike)

I do it different from job to job but I always use the Finesse It compound and polish. The DA thing isn't bad.If you use the soft interface 3M pad you can do the whole surface but I usually use 800 or 1000 on a hard pad to knock out dirt nibs or a slider then finish by hand down to 1500-2000.
