:sillyme:I am very very new to painting and my first project is some Harley tins I got of e-bay. I have already used Duplicolor primer and silver candy base coat so I guess this is kind of a moot point but here goes. Is this pint going to hold up well or is it crap like some sure think on another site.

I am going with a Candy Apple Red over the Silver Candy Base Coat any ideas what to expect for the final color look? How many shots of the Candy Apple Red and the Clear would you all shoot. All are Duplicolor.

I will post pictures of what I have so far soon....I do have some on another site that I just need to upload here at later date.

Thanks all

Welcome,
Anytime you spray a clearcoat that is not catalyzed, it will not hold up that good.

Keep spraying the candy coat until it looks nice and rich looking and when you get all the 'model' (stripes) out of the paint.
If you plan on spraying the fenders and tank, you'll probably need at least a can of primer, a couple cans of silver, a couple cans of candy and a couple of clear...at least I would think.
I've never sprayed canned any motorcycle parts, but I know how much it takes for candy through a regular gun.

Thank you TAZ. Yet another question???? I have a 3M disposable mask which is paint approved but what do you all think about this mask. It says it's good for around a weeks forth of painting 40hrs or so but I only use it about 4hrs every weekend. What do you all ware to paint?

Thanks

That's what we use here at the shop. Still not the best, but from what we found, it's about the best available. There's always the air supplied units. But if you are not doing alot of spraying, probably not worth the investment.

We had one forum poster basically say that overspray does not do any harm and that the overspray basically just falls on the ground before doing any damage. This is not true. Also, the chemicals, also DO get absorbed through your skin. So it's also a good idea to wear a painters suit. Plus it will help keep your paint jobs clean by keeping lint off the paint.
