Ok I just bought a car. I have it all sanded down. I am going to paint it metallic blue and then flame it.

I want to know the time periods between each paint step.

First I will paint on the base coat how long after base coat do I wait before I clear it?

Then how long after clear before I can tape out the flames?

How long after flames do i wait to clear the whole thing?

Thanks for the help.
This forum is awesome.

After you clear the base coat what kinda paint would you use for the flames? I am a complete novicea as you can already tell.

Thanks

Curt I haven't been at this long at all. But from what these guys have tought me, I found that it is very importatant to stay in the same paint line for the whole job. For instance if you buy dupont, use their primer, basecoat and clear.
If this is going to be your pride and joy I'd stay with a brand name company. when the paint is purchased you can ask for the tech sheets on it . if they don't have them you can usually find a web site for that brand. if the times for flashing between coats and the time to wait before clear coating are not listed on the can they can be found on the tech sheets.

Most of the info you need seems to very by manufacture although most times are similar
it is very important to READ THE DIRECTIONS!

. If there is not enough info on the can it can be foud on the data sheets. There are alot of tips and tricks the pros here can give, I'm not one of them, but they've tought me that it's hard enough to paint in the first place and thats if you do follow the proper procedures.
These guys tought me that us amatures can do it just takes alot of patience, don't rush it!
Also makesure to FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.
Well I hope I was able to provide some info you can use . I'm sure thse guys will have alot of good info for you to follow shortly, remember jut don't take any shortcuts unless they say it's ok
