Well, I can give you two recent examples I encountered with fisheyes and solvent pop and tell you how it happened.

1) solvent pop -- I was using PPG 2082 Clear which dries really quick and I was really laying it on thick and the top was air-drying quicker than the previous coat could vent! itty-bitty bubbles all over the place! They were just in the very top of the last coat, so they sanded/buffed out

2) fisheyes -- I hadn't encountered these troublesome little pups in quite awhile. Was painting some plastic side covers and although I sanded thoroughly and degreased, the first coat of sealer had big ol fisheyes poking through! I determined it was because the side covers had been recently waxed and sanding the finish just pushes the wax deeper into the pores of the plastic. The best thing for plastic is to scrub it very thoroughly with soap and water *prior* to sanding. sanded it down and reshot -- fixed!

You guys are great.I'm sorry Sweatheart,I just couldn't resist that.

Solvent pop is real small,I guess about the size of the ball of a ballpoint pen.The best way to tell is to look at the topcoat as it's drying.First you'll see tiny blisters and when it's dry later they all popped,at least 99% of the time.Fisheyes you'll see as a crater right after you make a pass with the gun in varying sizes, from the same size as a solvent pop to friggin huge like a pencil eraser. There is a case where you think you have a fisheye but it's actually a very minute spec of fuzz from you or a breaking down intake filter.I get them occasionally on a reclear and if you look close with a magnifying glass you'll see it in the center.Hope this helps.

Diesel fuel can definately cause them, especially if there's one running right near your intake filters. If this happened and you keep getting fisheyes I bet your intake filters are contaminated.Try not to use the fisheye preventer if you can. You're not supposed to use it in anything but the clear or singlestage and once you use it everything that goes on top of it from that point on should have it added in to prevent adhesion problems. You are wiping them down properly with grease and wax remover right?
