fixing scratch in flame

While storing my son's Sporty tank last winter somehow it suffered a small scratch on top in the middle of a flame. The scratch went through the clear, and the flame, down to the black basecoat. I've already sanded it. I'm ready to tape off the flame, and spray more of the flame color (Dupli-Color Mirage Red/Blue flip flop out of a spray can). After I wet sand to smooth it out I want to clear the whole tank again. The paint job is a year old. Dupont Basemaker Black and Chromaclear are the other paints on the tank. Question: can I rough it up with 400 grit and put three more coats on, should I use an adhesion promotor or possibly another method. I have enough of the Chromaclear left for about three coats. Thanx in advance for any advice.

you should be ok, you don't need adhesion promoter, just sand and re clair. I would sugest useing a higher # sand paper maby 800 would give you a better result.
