Hey everybody, i'm the new guy...well teenager. This may be quite off the subject of bikes but i'm a drummer. And currently i'm working on a drumset. What i want to do is have a black sparkle base coat, then have red/orange sparkle flames. Anyways the main question is can you spray the ultra fine metal flakes out of an airbrush, where can i get a good airbrush for pretty cheap, and where can i get the sparkles. Also how do i do it...like have the sparkles match the shade of red or orange that i'm doing. Well thanks for your time and...stuff. So later! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/peace.gif

hmmm....there are some airbrush brands out there that have a bigger fluid nozzle and are affordable (Badger Airbrushes come to mind), but I'm thinking a cheap mini spray gun you can purchase at Lowes for around $50 would do the work you need.

Also metal flakes are made by many manufactors, but I believe they make only one or two shades of any color & it would slightly vary from manufactor to manufactor, so matching a specific red won't be easy to match. The way to alter metal flake color is with kandy koncentrates, or kandy sprayed over a layer of metal flake and that's for the moderate to advance user, plus it means you having to buy more materials to complete your goal.

Your best bet is to goto a local automotive refinishing paint store and look at metallic basecoats. Tell them what your plan is and don't forget you'll need to clear coat it, or have it done somewhere. They should be willing to help you with choices and get you on your way to painting your drums.
