Hi as I stated before I'm very interested in painting. IMO outlines make a huge difference in the appearance of flames
How are these painted on, By hand with a brush or are they sprayed on.

Takes a long time and lots of practice to hand stripe things, but it can be done. Well...I can't...but that's another story. I use the 'tape' method. Basically, you tape out your flames and paint them the color you want for a pinstripe. (red, for example) When it dries, lay fineline tape just inside the edge of the flames, covering the red where you want the pinstripe to appear. Then squirt your flame color (blue, maybe?) over the whole mess. Peel off all the tape and Voila! You have blue flames with a red pinstripe!

Tip! Before you spray the flame color, I suggest laying another line of fineline tape over the seam where the edge of the flame and the fineline for the stripe meet to prevent the flame color from seeping in between and ruining your work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crap.gif Also, be sure to press the tape down firmly. Check the spots where tape overlaps, like at the tip of a flame. When you have it all pressed down, check again. You surely missed something somewhere. The flame color can easily ooze under it and make for an unattractive job. It might seem like a lot of extra trouble to check all the tape, but it is much quicker than needing to sand it all off and starting all over!

There are some good threads about it in this board, so you might want to try the search feature and check out some more detailed explanations.
