flame outline

i need some advice on the easiest way to paint my flames I have a black base and want a silver (solid) flame flame with some type of outline approx 1/8" inch maybe in yellow,orange,etc. i have my black base what nextshould i spray a coat of the outline color then tape the flame and paint the silver or paint the silver flame and then tape the outline and spray

Bek,It would be quicker to layout your flames,spray(airbrush) your outline color along the inside edge,add 1/8th in.tape along your edge and shoot your silver or flame color.
A tip for you is to put another piece of 1/8th over the two where they meet, just to make sure you don't get the flame color on the wrong side of your edge(pinstripe)color.jim

Sometimes it's good just to spray the flames in that particular color instead of just doing the edges. If you're lucky, it'll make a great ground coat for the actual flame color.
i.e red outline with orange flames
