flame sequence logic check

First, thanks to all who post on a regular basis, I've learned a lot reading through old posts.

I'm just looking for a sanity check on my proposed paint job, my first. Using all HOK paints.

I've put down a base of silver, cleared, and wetsanded. Now for the fun. I intend to put 6" wide kandy tangerine stripe right down the middle of the tank and fender with flames under the kandy.

1. Tape out flames and hit edges with mix of silver/grey (using airbrush).

2. Intercoat.

3. Remove tape, add drop shadows using rootbeer kandy concentrate ( w/ airbrush).

4. Shoot kandy stripe and intercoat.

5. Drop shadow (rootbeer KK) on inside edge of kandy stripe (want stripe to look under instead of hovering above silver).

6. Remove tape, clear, etc..........

Two additional questions, what ratio KK to intercoat to get good shadow effect, and two, how long can I leave 3M green tape on before I need to worry about problems. I have not taped yet, but with two very young kids, plans continually get pushed back.

Thanks again, great board.

Possibly I misunderstood you...but if you have a silver base, and your first step is to mask off the flames, and airbrush them silver, you wouldn't see these. Is the 6" stripe getting sprayed black (metallic?) first, then you are airbrushing the flames silver over the black stripe, then spraying candy tangerine over the black metallic stripe with silver flames.
If you do the drop shadows in root beer, I don't think you will see them when you add candy tangerine over them.

As far as tape being left on, you can leave the 3/4" for a few days, but if you use 1/8" or 1/16", I wouldn't leave this on for more than 1 day. Spray them the same day if possible.

Tank is metallic silver. I intend to do the flames with a blend of silver/grey so the flames are just a shade darker. My intent is that the flames will be sort of ghost under the kandy. Thanks for the help.

Bert,
If you plan on doing the flames right over the silver, I would suggest doing it with BC-03, with a *tad* bit of silver (I don't have my chart handy, but this is the Galaxy Gray color I am referring to). If you go more toward the silver side, even though you see them without candy, once you spray the candy, the flames may disappear on you and it would be alot of wasted effort.

You may want to even do a 'test panel' just to get an idea of how much the flames will stand out.

Good luck to you...be sure and post pics
