Flames over gelcoat

Alright guys, need some opinions here. My next project is gonna be flaming some race kart bodies. These bodies are gonna come gelcoated. I'd like to put some flames on them, but I'm not sure how I want to go about doing it. I don't really want to spray a whole new base over the entire body surface. Could I just tape out the flames, scuff the flame surface then base and clear only that surface? I'm not worried about the paint lines, these bodies will take quite a beating. I just wanted to cut costs, and the time involved in doing this. Any opinions on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't see why that wouldn't work as long as you get it scuffed right up to the edge of your mask. You could also have some flames computer cut (or cut it out yourself) from vinyl decal material and just stick them on. This would allow for easy change and repair if they get too beat up (my brother did this for some bumper cars).

Are the bodies very flexible? You may have to add something to the paint to make it flexible. God luck and get some good pics. when done..
