First make sure the base is compatable to go over the surfacer. If there's no bodywork a black sealer is better. If the base is compatable, sand it with 6-800,not 500.Since you're using a metallic,500 will probably show scratches meaning a sand and rebase.I know nothing about Chromeillusion, but if it's pearl or holographic based, you can make it stand out or ghost it depending on the strength you mix it.

I just finished spraying 2 pints of chromalusion "blasberry". Did a flame job on a hot rod I am building. I started out thinking I would do ghost flames then decided to lay it on thick. It really turned out good and looks sharp. The paint changes different colors depending what color base it is sprayed over. I shot over candy apple red and from different angles it can look gold, blue, red or purple. All metallic in color. I do not know how it would look in ghost form but it sure is nice otherwise. The only downside...it cost $300 per pint!

PPG gets almost $40 an ounce of their version called Harlequin.I don't know what others are made from but Harlequin is made with gold shavings, hence the price.Another cool one is the BASF paint option on the Mustang a few years ago.It was very expensive and highly regulated because one of the pigments was the green money is printed with. You had to verify the car before you could get the paint, and all leftover was scarfed up to be returned.
