Flaming my Titan

Hey guys,
I feel stupid having to ask this question. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I've searched through 300 pages of subjects on the board, and have found bits and pieces of my answer but thought I'd just hang my head and ask you pros. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm flaming my Titan...Finally! But am unsure as to what is the best way to do it.

Do I mask off a bigger area, sand everything within the area and then tape out and shoot the flames, then clear the whole area? If so, then what about the tape edge of clear where the masked area was? Sand it down smooth and polish?

Man, you'd think I was a freakin' beginner... wait a minute, after all this time, I still am a freakin' beginner! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Thanks for your expertise. Much appreciated.

No problem FT,
Sand the complete part, this is as long as your base is perfect, you can use as the base for your flame job...anyway, sand it, then mask up the flames, paint the flames, then pull off all tape, and clear the complete part. You will, or should have have a smaller edge you can wetsand and buff out.
That's the basics on getting the edge out...if it's a thick edge, resand, and reclear. Be sure the surface is 'flat' before reclearing. See our "Double Dose" page on this.
Hope this helps?!

Ok,
Well, I'm going to try this without sanding the complete parts. I know it's not the best idea, but getting the different chrome bits and pieces like the antenna, door handles, "TITAN" on the tailgate, "5.6 V8" on the front quarters, etc off is restrictively difficult. I am going to try to tape around these items tightly, and then sand/scuff the rest of the parts, then tape out my flames, shoot them, pull the tape and clear everything. Hopefully the edge around the taped off items won't be too big.

I might be reading this wrong but sand everywhere clear will touch. On the most recent custom vans they would tape out and sand an area, then cover the edge with 1/8-1/4" tape and do the work, then pull the 1/8? and clear.Still have a clear edge though.Let me know if I read this wrong.
