what is a good clear to use on a frame that wont chip easy?

It's all gonna chip unless you powdercoat it.Your best clear will be the softer urethanes like PPG 2042 or 2021 and stay away from polyurethanes.

REX CAN YOU USE PPG 2042 OR 2021 OVER CREATEX AUTO AIR? AND WHAT IS THE BEST TAPE TO USE FOR THE INTER ROUND PARTS OF THE FLAMES SO THERE ARE NO RINKLES. AND WHATS BEST TO REMOVE TAPE MARKS WITHOUT MESSING UP THE PAINT.THANK YOU SORRY ABOUT ALL THE Q'S

You're a little out of my league here but I'd say the 2042 idn't a prob at all.I'd do a test panel first to see if a wet first coat moves anything.I use 3M blue at the moment for fineline but only because I haven't sent off for better.If you're having problem with wrinkling in the tight turns go to thinner tape,I usually use 1/8" but I can play 1/4" sometimes(if it's hot you can run a turn,pull it and rerun it 2 or 3 times but you have to pay attention to the edge being smooth and how much stick is left).If the tape marks are faint they'll disappear with clear,but if they actually eat into the base if you're doing it that way they can leave tracks.I like to do layouts over clear,preferably topcoat over basecoat.
