gas tank sealer

I hate to ask a /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif that's probably been answered a hundred times, but I couldn't find anything with the search.

What's the deal with gas tank sealer?

When do you need to use it? New tanks? Old tanks? Damage repaired tanks only?

Is epoxy sealer the way to go?

When I shot my '97 king, I just drained the tank, did the paint work, and put her back in service. It was empty around 6 months. I've had it back on the road now for a year & a half and haven't had any probs with the fuel system. Was I correct in the way I did it?

Thanks in advance.

The company I used (Kreem) said it can be used on any tank, but I wouldn't do it to a new one, unless it leaked.

I used it to remove some rust and repair a tank that was not replaceable.

It seemed like it coated well, but I ended up finding a used one and bought it instead, so I can't tell you the performance.

If all you are doing is painting, and moisture gets inside, you are fine.
