Im not sure if this is the right area for this but here it goes anyway. What im looking for are tips to a new painter that would like to start up a custom paint biz. I have always been kind of an artest, just not much experience painting. I just finished painting a VW in PPG bc/cc Tangerine pearl. Taped up some flames and am now trying to decide if I like it or not. I wanted to do it as a promotional thing. I have a good gun and a Not as good gun for primer. What else would I need? Could I learn more from videos? Plan on building a semi- professional booth, and have a good compressor. My work closed the doors and now I am in a situation to do what I love. I think this is it!! Anyway any tips would help. Im not looking for somthing like this, just a hometown type shop.

You can just about always pick up something from a good video or book and the layout you have looks nice.SInce you're working with a tangerine base I think some yellow or gold(sparingly),tangerine, sunrise and sunset pearls and maybe a few more mixed together or faded throughout would look cool on that for ghosting.

Hey Madd Mike,

I personally am a book/video/info junkie. I learn a tremendous amount from these type of sources. Here is a list of what I consider must haves:

1. ANY video from Vince Goodeve (available from Airbrush Action Magazine).

2. Craig Fraser's book "Automotive Cheap Tricks and Special FX.

3. Airbrush Action Magazine

4. Auto Art Magazine

5. Auto Graphics Magazine

6. A color wheel

7. Steve Vandemon's video on flame painting

If possible attend an Airbrush Getaway put on by Airbrush Action Magazine. It will absolutely take you to the next level. You can learn so much about custom painting at one of these even if you are not into airbrushing per say. Many of the students that attend are in the industry and you can learn as much from them as the instructors.

Anyhoo, this should be enough info to overwhelm you for a while. Good luck!

Craig
