I am painting a red pearl ghost flame over a white pearl vehicle. Read the how-to-section and am confused on spraying flame. It says to mix pearl with blending clear mixture. Reduce 1 to 1 with reducer. I only want flame to be visible in sunlight. Have been told 5 to 1. What do you think? Also should overspray occur, what do I remove this with because my vehicle is pearl. Please help. Starting to paint Jan 22. Appreciate a reply ASAP

Hello,
Mixing for a ghost flame is all personal preference. The more your reduce it (or adding clear basecoat to the pearl), the less the flames will stand out. I just did the 1-1 mix (blue pearl and 895) as a "guideline" to doing a ghost flame job (you will also need to reduce this). To get best results, spray a large test panel in a 3 stage white, then spray various ratios of mixed red pearl/base clear mixes. Then spray these on your panel keeping in mind, your air pressure and how you reduced your paint.

My suggestion would still be to mix the base 1-1 with the red pearl (the milky looking red pearl, *not* the red- red pearl...make sense

). Then you will need to mix the 1-1 pearl mix with 1 part reducer. This will give you very subtle red pearl flames.

Good Luck

I just did blue pearl ghost flames over silver and I had a problem sort of. After clearing it, around the edge of the flames it looks like a black line going around the whole outline of the flames. It looks like a shadow but I just can't tell. And also, the flames stick out like a sore thumb when the light isn't on them. Meaning you can tell they're there but they're not blue. The way I did it, was the had the paint shop just mix blue pearl like they do the paint (this is what they recommended, and i mean w/ the other stuff they put in paint, bonders or whatever). I just sprayed like 2 or 3 light coats, I don't know if that was too much or what.

The dark line came from putting the coats on wet and the clear/pearl mix building up next to the tape.In some cases it looks good and others aweful.I'd say 3 coats was too much for ghosting with the strength it was mixed, especially on a light color.

So I guess 1 or 2 ultra thin coats max? Maybe next time I'll only do dark colors over light, or any color over a dark one

. Save a lot of hassle.
