ghost flame paint on a electric guitar

I am building a guitar, and already thinking about the paint job.

I want to use a base of a see thru color either Candy appel red or Black with red pearl ghostflames.

What base would you recommend?

It has to be see thru color, so you can see the grain in the wood top on the guitar.

do you use automotive paint, or rattle can paint?

if you use the rattle can, get the duplicolor metalcast paint. any color other than the grey.

auto paint will be much more professional looking, and have a much glossier finish. i personally would go w/ house of kolor paints. using the UK candi color, or the kandi die that you can mix w/ a clear.

Finish your wood then clear it before you do anything. This way your flames won't bleed into the woodgrain giving you a bad edge. Sand your clear with 800 grit dry (don't wetsand on a guitar) lay out your flames dust the edge, unmask and candy. Should look cood man!

i'd put the kandi on top of the flames. this will make a better ghost effect.

mask off your flames, shoot them (silver or gold metalic would be cool). then kandi over the entire thing, then shoot the clear coat.

I would shoot clear then scuff with red scotch brite, then use either a clear or inner coat clear with candy concentrate added, the more coats you shoot the darker it will get (less transparent) then clear coat or inner coat clear with pearl powder for the ghost flames, be carefull its easy to use too much pearl, and finally a final clear coat then cut and buff.
