Ghost Flame Question

This is my first post on this site. I am recently retired, after 30 years with Daimler-Chrysler and now have time to have some fun. I want to put ghost flames on my 96 Jeep Cherokee. I am okay with paint and layout but I need help with mixing the pearls in the clear. How much do I use?? Everything else with this paint system is precisely measured, I'm sure there is a formula. Jeep is dark green, if that makes a difference.

First, welcome to the site. There is tons of knowledge here, and lots of people willing to share it.

I was recently in the same boat as you, and with some experimentation and advice from this board, I came up with some good results.

I got some dry pearls and mixed them approximatey 3 grams per 8 ounces of binder. Binder is just the clear that is used to mix the paint at the paint supplier. I pay about $25 a quart for it. I then use pint cans and put 8 oz of binder in it then add the pearl and reduce 100%. This will go a long way. I did ghost flames on a friends car and still have half the reduced pint left over.

You really need to do a test panel with the color you want with a couple different pearls and different coats to see what effect you will have. Dark base colors tend to show the pearl more than light, IMO.

Hope this helps.......
