Hi there! I'm new to this (or any other board) and am looking for some advice. I've painted many hot rods with good results. I'm interested in painting some ghost flames on the fenders of a '30 model a. I really like the flames on the tank of #401. My car is primed and ready to paint, I plan on solid black base coat. the questions I have are as follows:1 do I need to lay down a clear coat over the base coat before tape for the flames?
2 the brandywine seems to have metallic base not pearl, will this work for the ghost flames? and 3 I was thinking of painting the brandywine kandy over the whole flame would this be a waste of time over the black? Thanks in advance for any help! This is a great board...hopefully someday I'll be able to offer some advice to someone in return!

Welcome to the Flames Board!

Basically candy is sprayed over a metallic color of your choice. I usually use a color I make up, but for simplicity sake, you can use a silver, charcoal, gold, or whatever color you would like. You can either airbrush these on, or you can spray the flames 'solid'. Then you spray the candy over your metallic. You can also use whatever candy color you would like.
If you use black as your basecoat, you wouldn't have to spray clear on it first. Spray the black, let is sit overnight, then do your flame job, then clear the complete car.

Thanks Scott,
I'll give it a whirl. The base coat was my main consern. I'll do the metallic with my airbrush since I'm looking for more of a ghost effect. Hopefully I'll have some photo's for you guys in a week or so!
