Ghost Flames

I'm really new to all of this, so I just have a question that I would greatly appreciate claification on:

I have a 1960 Cadillac Coupe DeVille that I just purchased. I am going to customize it and all, but I would like the ghost flame affect for my paint job.

The base color is going to be jet black. What color paint would be best to use to acheive the ghost flame affect?

Your assistance in this would be greatly appreciated, as this is my baby and I don't want to muck it up.

I've sprayed platinum ghost flames on a black hood (just practicing) and it turned out pretty good. I put too much pearl on though so it doesn't look very good not in the light and they're not really that ghosty. If you spray them lightly, they'll probably have a lot better effect. Here are a couple pics. The first one is from a ways away kind of just to show the design.

Thanks, Jay. I don't know if it is just something with my computer or what, but I was not able to access the pictures you referenced. If you want, you can email them to me @ AIngersoll@hanford.com - I would like to get an idea of what it would look like.

Also, I have been trying to find custom paint colors, just to get an idea. I am trying to find a dark purple metallic on the internet, so I can see what it looks like. Do you know of any sites that have paint chips to reference?

Sent you mail. I don't know of any sites w/ paint chips. I've been looking myself. Scott, the owner of this site, has a truck that is purple. I don't know if it's metallic or not but he might be able to give you the paint code or the mixture b/c I think it is custom by him.

I can get you the paint formula that I used on my truck. The formula is done in Glasurit BC/CC paint.
I did the formula back in 1993, before a purple pearl was popular. Several companies have it now. But I will post it anyway.

It is made up of blue pearl, red pearl, magenta, blue...Also, it must be sprayed over a black base. So it is more or less a three stage paint. It's very easy to spray though.

If you don't want this color (or type of paint), you can visit your local dealerships, find a color you like, get the code, then have your local automotive paint store make you up some.

Here is the formula I designed.

I did this back in 9/93. Before the purple pearls really even came out. This was done with the Glasurit 54 line. I believe their 55 line has the same toner numbers.

You will need to spray this over either a black sealer or a black base. Then of course, you will need to clear over it.

Each line contains the toner number and the name of the toner.
