Ghost Flames

I am going to do a ghost flame job (never done ghost flames before) on my brothers Harley and wanted some experienced advise. My plan is to achieve blue ghost flames on a metalic black basecoat is to start with metalic black basecost followed by intercoat clear or regular clear followed by taping off the flames, spraying one or two coats of white pearl in some intercoat clear, and then using some oriental blue candy over the flame tapeouts, followed by my clear coats over the whole project.
My guestion is is this the best way to achieve blue ghost flames and what pitfalls might I run into. I plan to do test panels beforhand but am wondering if this is the best approach.

Thanks for any help you might provode

When I do ghost flames I like the less is best method. I think they look the best with very light color accents. You might want to check what the blue candy will do to your black metalic on a test panel too. It wont show on straight black but it will change a metalic color.

You could shoot your black, innercoat or cat coat clear, tape out your flames and shoot blue pearl mixed with clear, followed by your final clear. I like about a teaspoon of pearl powder per quart for ghost flames. If possible do it on a sunny day so you can take them outside and look at them in the sun, it is real easy to put on too much pearl. Another thing is to spray toward the center of the flame to minimize your tape edge as you wont be albe to hide it with pinstripes on a ghost flame. Al

I like Ultra Al's idea, especially since you've never did a ghost flame job before.

Basically black with the interclear, then the 'blue pearl' ghost flames, then clear. No need to mess with the tri-stage candy.

Another method for you to check out instead of using pearl (which can be pretty ghosty sometimes) use the HOK Orion Silver BC02 with two light coats where the flames will be and also then you can highlight the leading edges of the licks with a mini jet. Then put what ever color candy over that. It leaves alot less build and it looks awsome when done right. Good Luck

I do it similar to this, but I think using clear as the carrier for the pear gives too much film build. I use pearl mixed in ballancer and binder.

Anybody tried mixing powdered pearl with HOK's SG150? I bought a quart but haven't had a chance to try it yet. AL
