Gold leaf - I thought this was easy!

I figured it would be cool to try some gold leaf. Simple design, easy to buy, easy to administer....I need some tips. I am applying it to a base coat/intercoat. I scuffed the area, taped it off, cleaned it with isopropal/water mix, sprayd on the spray adhesive, waited 2 minutes like instructions, set on gold leaf carefully pressed down with a soft brush, let it dry for recommended 1 hour. I then brushed off what I could and removed the tape. While I didn't expect a clean line, I encountered the gold leaf pealing away and not adhered. I then tried basecoat clear as the adhesive, same result. What is the trick to keeping the leaf down upon tape removal. Any thing else would be appreciated. did I get bum adhesive or leaf? IF I successfully get this done, do I cover with Urethane and then pinstripe.... thanks

thanks

gchagrin,
You are supposed to apply the adhesive, pull the tape and THEN adhere the leaf. Unless you intend to pinstripe over the leaf, go ahead and stripe and then clear over it all.
