The guy just wants a simple gloss black. Would any one recommend a single stage? I have local access to Dupont and PPG. Also, can a single stage be cut and buffed? I am not looking for anything show worthy, it is an old Shovel and he kind of wants it to stay that way.

if you can get it .du pont's centari works pretty good.i dont know if it''s still around though. if not try the nason. they are both user friendly and easy to polish.make sure you put on an extra coat or two so you can wet sand and polish it. if you prep it well (600 grit for final sand)you may not need to polish at all.good luck.cyas

Thanks for the advise. I was thinking 4 coats, wetsand and buf. Is it possible to hand rub the tins on a bike?

yes but it requires lots of elbo greese.if by hand you might want to wetsand with 3000 grit.get some good soft cloth and start with a medium compound and on to fine.in the past they used to do it all by hand(cars too).take lots of time on the paint.we used to over thin it just a little for better flow out but if your new at painting leave that one alone.the better the paint job the easier the buff..good luck.post pics.cyas
