Boy...I sure am racking up the posts now.
Here's something I've been thinking about doing for awhile now. I've got some new sheetmetal coming for my new bike so I've been trying to think of how I want to paint it up. On my last job, I sprayed everything Cinder Red. Cleared/sanded. Shot one set of flames in Orion Silver. Cleared/Sanded. Shot a 2nd set of flames in Galaxy Gray. Cleared/Sanded. Shot 2 coats of Kandy Kobalt blue with some Mini Silver Metalflake. Then shot 3-4 more coats of Kandy and cleared. The bike looked great. The metalflake would wink at you when you would walk by.
Here's what I want to do with my new project but I want some opinions.
I'd like to spray everything in the HoK MBC Platinum/Silver. Then I'd shoot it with SG-100 and sand. Then shoot a set of flames out of a pure blue metalflake. Then clear and sand. Then spray 4-5 coats of Kobalt blue candy over everything and clear.
My main question is: When looking through the candy at the metalflake flames, are they going to show up really good? Will they sparkle any different with all metalflake compared to just using a blue BC and adding metalflake to the candy? Would I be better off using just some Orion silver instead of the MBC Platinum?
Please share your opinions....what you might do differently to get a better effect. I have some time to think this over. This is probably the funnest part about painting a bike...except for bolting everything back on.
