Man, Ive finally got it to where I can lay down the clear flat. BUT when I wetsand it and buff I can still see scratches! I went 1500 2000 2500 then cut and buffed with perfect 3. What am I doing wrong?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beat.gif
This is what I just finished. Im happy with it but I sure would like to have my gun finish shine back!

Maybe try laying some degreaser over everything after each sanding step to make sure you've gotten all the scratches taken out?

Maybe sand a small section with each of the papers you're using, that might help tell you which scratches you're not getting rid of? I'd assume it's the 1500.

The bike looks great by the way!

Im really not sure, they are REALLY fine. But they are there. I think Im going to get some 3k and go over one piece then compoud and buff again and see what happens.

Could it be when you wipe it off? Or maybe wiping the glaze off?

I had the same problem with a car I did recently. The thing looked great, but when I would hand glaze it, I would put scratches back into it wiping it off!..
I cured most of the problem by using the microfiber cloths you get at Sams.

Nice looking bike, btw, but it is still slow!

:):) J/k.......

It looks fine to me. Nice color scheme and flow. Ive often wondered "I wish I had my gun shine back" whats the down side, if any, of not buffing if it looks good already? AL

Well I heard that buffing adds depth. Plus I like to bury my lines. On my next job Im thinking about shooting clear then hitting it with 800 then three more coats of clear and leave it. I would love to hear what Scott thinks about this.

I'll wetsand with 1000 up to 2000, then I use a product called Sure Finish with a wool pad, then a soft foam pad. Awesome stuff.

To respond to ? about not buffing!!!! Here is how I see it it is not finished till you finish the finish all that said yes it adds depth also takes that harsh reflection out by breaking the refracting down with them dam scratches your putting in it so the scratches are not all bad but they need to be so small they dont appear to be scratches anymore. And you got to love that soft smooth feel of freshly buffed muff oops LOL paint job just my 3 centsanyway MoJoz
