ok....so I did all my homework on sanding , priming, prepping, paint/interclear/clear...blah blah... then comes time to paint and the tech sheet for the paint says to check manufacturer for pressure setting for gun. That tells me 15-50 psi....I searched this site and couldn't find the answer (maybe I am searching the question wrong..) What kind of pressure do you run at the gun? I am using HOK bc-25/ silver marble / sg-100 interclear / then clear with uc-35. What type of line pressure setting? I know that is somewhat of a ball-park # and from there you practice/tweak it in with the paint you are shooting, but at this point...I don't even know where the game is being played.. :)
As awlays..thanks in advance..

I usually use a higher pressure for clear and lower for the base.
I like 'pushing' the clear on. Just my technique though.
Ask 10 painters, and they'll probably give you 10 different setup and pressure answers.

Definitely best just to test it out 25-30 for clears and the basecoats is a great place to start though.

Good Luck to you!

we use an HVLP, at the gun it's set to around 30. 2bars I think it equals.
But as those above said, different styles for everybody. And each paint type and manufacturer will be different too. bases to clears, all different.

Dang. I don't think I've heard anyone ever recommend anything over 10-15 at the gun for an HVLP. Where have I been?

Bob,
to the best of my knowledge the 10 to 15 psi is the cap pressure not the pressure going in the gun. (then again maby ive been lost in paint land to long lol)

I always adjusted pressure at the gun by observing the "splatter". Too coarse, increase pressure, too fine, reduce pressure. Just shoot some paint on plywood or cardboard and observe the results. I use a pressure regulator and gauge at the gun and note the pressure while shooting for future reference.

I don't know anything about HVLP, but have been doing lots of reading about it and from what I understand, you want about 10 psi at the tip, not the input to the gun. You'll probably need 25 psi there to get 10 at the tip.

30 psi at the compressor with a 50 ft hose works for me on my cheapo harbor freight gravity feed gun

(didn't know i had the gti, oops i would have bought the gti instead of the plus, oh well. they shoot a little different)

hose and fitting size makes a big diferance too.i start with 80 at the regulator through a desacant filter then a quarter inch hose.that gives me about 35 at the gun.and it's sposed to be ten to fifteen at the cap.i use a devillebiss plus for base and clear (two guns) and a gti for sealer.
