Has any one had any luck matching this very light silver on the two tone black and silver 100th anniversary edition? Thanks red

I've heard of problems with the silver and black being very thin and transparent on quite a few bikes,or it could be the paint. The only true match you'll get is with Harley's own factory pacs and you're limited to lacquer unless you can find out how to order their urethanes and prove you're a 'professional".I've yet to see a mixed color be a perfect match, some are real close and some aren't.

Yeah, H-D does not have any for sale....only touch-up pens. I can get fairly close but it is still a shade dark. I have a Diamont mixing bench, but none of the silvers are light or bright enough even with flop control and a small amount of white. These 100th editions are a PITA with the emblems, colors, and can't buy stripe transfers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif red

Welcome, sorry I missed that.Have you tried turning up the pressure and/or overreducing it a bit to get it as light as possible?Another possibility is try a pint of PPG since they supply Harley's paint.I don't believe they even make factory pacs for bikes but if I remember right I have 5,maybe 6 metallics in our rack.

You may want to try starting with a very fine aluminum tints from one of the mixing systems. Possibly this willgive you a close start.

Just a guess. I hadn't tried matching it...haven't had to...yet!!

You can always tint it darker easier than making it brighter.

i was told by my ppg jobber that there is a new tint involved in that and its pretty costly and the formula is not avalible and only exclusive to the HD final assembly plant. who knows? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I went thru my system today and couldn't even find it in the 2 week old update.I can get the '04 silver and the Diamond Ice formulas but not much at all is listed for the Anniversary models.I guess they think it's special so you have to buy it from them or suffer. The 04 silver was 2 course metallics with a touch of 2 blues and black but that's not it,and I couldn't believe how much blue pearl was in the Diamond Ice,more than I thought for the amount that shows.Sorry for a negative answer.

I do repair work for the local Harley shop and have not been able to get the correct color. PPG is OEM to Harley and they can't get it. According to the Color library folks, Harley wll not release ANY of the special colors such as Shriner White, 95th Anniversary colors, etc. The "Sterling Silver" supposedly involves a new application process as well. My local PPG supplier tells me that PPG is working on it because of the high demand, but nothing yet. I have faith that one of us will eventually crack the code!

That's a crock. I've mixed the 95th anni champaign and midnite red on ppg and nexus mixing systems.Have'nt looked for shriner white. The 03 silver is impossible to find but if you have a mixing bank and a good eye I think you could get pretty close.

I have tried straight fine silver, fine silver with white pearl, fine silver with med iredescent, and also with flop control. Spent probably 5-6 hrs fighting with this color, painting on a damaged 100th fairing. I also work exclusively for a Harley dealer, and this is the first one to give this much trouble. The tank is painted with one coat of clear right now. It is darker, but we shall see what the customer thinks. It does'nt look that bad, but I know it is out a shade or two. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/freak.gif red

Yes it is time consuming and expensive. Just keep records of the tints your using and write them down, don't rely on memory. Have you tried a couple of drops of blue in the mix yet?Not even 1/10 of a gram in a 1/2 pt. Start there and see what happens. I've had good luck brightening up whites and silvers that way.
Good luck

My paint store manager told me they used a VW silver (don't know the code) and was able to blend/repair a front fender. It was good enough that they and the customer could not detect the repair. Might want to check out the color chips. TC

Noone can understand his grammar unless they're really patient, anyway...does he also talk like that? LOL again. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Oh, by the way, staying on topic here, have you had any success with the Anniv Silver yourself? I gotta check out the VW colors, but I'm thinking that HD bought this color from somebody other than PPG. I'm gonna keep looking and calling around myself.

Thanks guys, for the tip on the possible VW dealio.

Hi Dave, I e-mailed Cycle Color, and they said that with a sample that they would match it. I don't know, as every aluminum or iredecent mixing base I've seen is too dark. Harley even had alot of trouble with it. I just blended the one for my customer and it seemed to be ok with them. red

I painted a bike in a special paint from Standox (at customers request) back in the fall. It's called "liquid Silver" and is one of their High end color shift paints. It requires a fine silver base that is not normal looking silver. I noticed that it looked alot like the HD 2003 silver so I shot a test panel and took it to a buddy who has a 2003 bike. It is a perfect match. So much so that I painted a helmet for him to match the bike. The silver base for the "Liquid Silver" is not expensive so get some and try it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/luck.gif
