I have a base color of black was thinking about shooting harliquien red to blue flames (have left over material) but want it to be more of a ghost effect rather than a big blob of paint. Should I first mix it in a bit of clear to reduce the color, or is there some other secret, lighter coverage... I don't have alot of material left so don't want to do too many test shoots... any help would be appreciated... Ernie

Done it alot of times, mask off flames and just fog the edges with the chamelion/harlequin and just pay attention to how much your putting on. I use a iwata hp-c and it works out fine.goes from pure black to standout flames depending on the light source and angle.

Ok, thanks, I tape out the flames last night and shot a scrap, figured even if I don't have much material, I'd do a small test to she how much fogging to do, when you say only fog edges, I have the front of the tanks and the rear fender by the seat where the flames start, would you recommed just fogging that as well or should I hit that a bit heaverr? Like I said I'm looking for the ghost look, not solid paint... thanks again.... oh yea, normally I just put down base coat then tape then shoot, then clear, sand then clear again then cut and buff... do you recommend a inter coat of clear after the base or can I just do my normal gig? Thanks again E

I only use intercoat clear on a metallic or pearl base never on a solid color base like black unless there is a time issue.I would just fog the outer tape edge since you are looking for a true "ghost" effect. It doesn't take alot of the chameleon to stand out when cleared
