Having trouble

I am in the process of my first big job, I am using HOK paints. I thought things were going smooth, but i'm running into some big problems. I sprayed my base(bc-25), cleared it(uc-35), and wet sanded(800grit). Instead of moving on to graphics after this i was worried that the shine wouldn't come back in my base and i burned through the clear in a couple spots, so i decided to put on another layer of base. I sprayed it, and it ran and curdled all over. So i spent another 3 hours wet sanding it down, went to respray it and it ran again!! I am almost out of paint and have already gone through too much. Is there anyway i can fix the runs and rough spots without having to respray? If i use different grits to smooth out the runs will they look different when cleared? The next problem is that my spray gun was acting up. It would spray normal and about half to 3/4 of the way through my path it would sputter and spit out big gobs of paint. It made a noise like someone was sticking their tongue out and spitting. Is the gun no good, or was it just me?? Thanks for the help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/newbie.gif

Hiett, Learning sure is fun ain't it!Not!Here's what I would do,600 wet everything smooth, wipe it down and spray another light coat.(even but light)Wait til the base is dry to the touch, spray the first coat of clear thin again, get complete coverage but go thin. After it quits stringing, spray another but,a little heavier.wait 24 hrs,800 lightly-At this point, all you want to do is make it dull, not smooth and stay away from the edges.UC-35 is very thin compared to other brands. What reducer are you useing, base is usually hard to run.I'm guessing either too slow reducer or your putting it on way too heavy.

as far as the gun, sounds like it was clogging up(use a strainer)or the aircap wasn't sealing all the way.before you use it again, take the aircap and tip off, soak em and make sure they're clean,If it's a gravity fed gun, take the cup off and check the filter and passage that the paint goes thru for old paint.Clean,clean,clean.Jim
