ive got a black 07 silverado and im wanting to color match the tail lights but im not 100 percent sure how to do it. I obviously want to be able to see the brake lights when i hit the brakes. Am i going to need an adhesion promotor?

Thanks

hmmm silver might be kind of a difficult one to do. Maybe a silver pearl in a clear coat. But check out your state laws before. Up here in Canada it's illegal. Best make sure.

maybe i read it wrong, it looked like he said black ??

If it is black that's easy enough to do, just add black pigment right to the clear, i do it quite a bit so i have a good "feel" for how much to add so its not too light but not to dark at the same time

add a little at a time and have some sort of test panel for spraying, a spare taillight from another vehicle would probably be best to see how dark it is over it

It's a black Silverado not a silver Blackarado. JK.

I scuff with scotch brite then use adhesion promoter. Next I apply a coat of a clear base then begin tinting my clear base with black toner and go one coat at a time. I finish it up with two coats of clear. It's pretty simple. Good luck.

how many coats do you usually apply? I want it to match the paint obviously but i also want to be able to see the brake lights during the day if this can be done.

Thanks

I would like to see some pics of this with the lights on, i've seen people do it like this and it looks great until the lights are on, then it doesn't look even, sort-of blotchy

I'm not sure if you'll be able to tell in pics though

When I did my super duty I did three coats. I will try to snap some photos tonight and get them posted. I just have to wait for my wife to get home with the truck. I do know that mine are very even, no blotch when lit up.

I wonder if anyone makes a flexible film that you can place over it?
