I am in deep trouble really, i used to airbrush on papers and i am very good in it.
couple of days ago a customer asked me to do a flame job for him (on his computer case) thanks god its not a CAR! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbutt.gif
whent to the market bring lucite dupont (enamel acrylic colors)thats what the paint shop told me its good to start with for novice metal painter!

OK first of all i sanded the side of the case with 500 grit sandpaper to remove the clear, used dupont grease remover to clean the surface... then put a face of BLACK, it came out very sandy and rough!! i sanded it again clean it and used 4to1 thinner to color and less psi give it another try, the result was much better. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

now the flames came using mask film that shown in the pic allot of red coats to cover the black (it was thick i know but how it will cover the black !!!

now the DISASTER came .... when i try to remove the film it took the colors of ... showing the base color that was originallly at the case .... even some red layers peeled from each other !!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbutt.gif

please help me what is going on??? why all that peeling???
and is it better to use base coat instead of enamel acrylic, or is it the thinner that am using or what .... i am totally lost???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/freak.gif
what to do NOW??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif

ps. i am using Badger crecendo airbrush in all that work.

Don't worry,it's only metal.Athough I haven't shot much enamel,I know it takes alot longer to cure.My guess is the thinner is bleeding into and reactivating the previous color, you may have to wait longer(to let it cure) before getting to the flames. If it were me,I'd sand it down smooth, degrease it again and shoot a couple of coats of primer for a good base first. Then, after your base color,(black)you'll have to let it cure real good before putting your flames on it.I'm sure you'll get more answers but, that's my opinion. Good Luck,Jim

Start off w/ a primer, then apply your paint. The original paint on the metal is reacting w/ the enamel. A primer should solve your problem.
If not, sand it down and start over.

base coat is much easier to use (forgiving), but the clear coat is the hard part.

Thank you guys, i was thinking of the thinner too since it is a different brand called (Raquette thinner).
and you are totally right the thinner reactivated the previous colors, thats because i used allot of it i think.
tomorrow i'll go to the paint shop bring Dupont slow thinner, some Base coat colors and a primer ... and give it all a try ... i hope that will work.
will let you know ... because your my last hope ...
I have a very good clear coat from Dupont called 380s just need to mix it with thinner 2 to 1 and go.
i give it a try today .... and was really easy and looked great after sanding and polishing too.
they told me that they have a new one that have to be mixed with hardner and activator , but the good news about it that it gives a mirror finish without any need for buffing or polishing .... any one have any idea about it??
