I just finished a set just like you mentioned except I also did the rockers. All 3 pieces were plastic with the texture (for a 2009 Challenger). I sprayed them in a metalflake with flames and candy.

#1---Anyway, basically, you can just use a red scotch brite and sanded them best as possible. Then you will need to spray some plastic adhesion promoter, followed by some sealer. Then you you do the base and clear. This will get them painted, but most likely you will still see the texture.

#2--If you want these 'smooth', you will need to do the plastic adhesion promoter, then prime and sand before painting.
OR, if it's a 'solid color' (no metallic or pearl) and you want them smooth, you can do the #1 method and just resand and reclear. But if it's a metallic, you should do the #2 method.

Hope I didn't confuse you?

have you ever put adhesive velcro on one of your da pads and attached the scotchbrights to that? works great!
