Can someone tell me how to remove the gas guage from this Harley tank? I figured a fellow could simply twist it out, but as the label clearly states, "Do Not Twist." ??? No doubt it will be easier to paint with it removed.

Thanks in advance,

Andy aka Big Stinkie (Don't ask...you don't wanna know.)

Stinkie,
"Pull" it out (Don't twist it). You may have to use a small screwdriver to pry it out. The guage it just wedged in there.

Be sure and mark the wires when you take them off. There are four of them.

If it's never been out they can be tough.Get your fingers wrapped over the lip good and just start rocking it back and forth, eventually it'll pop out.Make sure when you disconnect the wiring that the bottom nut doesn't spin or it'll break contact like a starter or alternator.

Another piece of advice about remove the gas gauge cap. Before reapplying the cap after your done painting, make sure the screws (phillips head) under the cap are TIGHT!

Apparently while I had my Dyna tank off and was painting, these screw loosened up. I had no idea they were loose until I went to the gas station and filled up. Gas began to leak at the bottom of the tank where the wires for the gauge exit. No matter what I tried I could not get it to stop. After several frustrating hours, I called the local Harley shop and they explained what was going on. Once I tightened them down, it didn't leak a drop.

Hope this helps

Hyme,
Can you add that "tip" to the tip section of the Flames Board? Sounds like a good one.

Thanks!

That sucks doesn't it Hyme?Threw me the first time too. When the tank gets dry for painting there's no more gas fumes keeping the gasket swelled so it dries out and shrinks.Who'd of thought of that outright.2 of mine were something like a complete turn loose.
