I'm getting ready to shoot my first paint job and wanna do a classic flame job, Black base with yellow flames gradually fading to red. I want to use an urethane base and pearl white base for the flames with yellow and red candy colors.

Any info on urethane and candy colors and what materials and quantities i will need.

By the way,. this is going on a Harley wide glide. I've been doing some research but never seem to get all my questions answered.

Any info on videos that might help also will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The new guy!!!

Welcome LoneWolf. I like the color scheme you picked out. I would stay away from candies for this type of flame. Candies are just clear coats with a tent to them. Basically image a color like metallic silver or metallic gold and put a put a piece of colored glass over the top. Plus if you don’t shoot the candy just right you will end up with streaking. You can use candy base coats but they are more along the lines of a normal metallic that mimics some of the candy colors. I would suggest something more like pearl base coats for the flames. There are a lot of videos out there on custom painting. I’ve seen a few done by Crag Fraser, Vince Goodeve, and Van demon. The Vince Goodeve “how-to” paint a motorcycle tanks is pretty good for a lot of the basics like getting off stickers, prep, primer…… but I liked the Van demon flame painting video for tape lay outs and spraying. You ca check out www.airbrushaction.com they have a ton of videos. If you want to learn more about candies then check out Crag Fraser’s Candy Cheap tricks and F/X or the House of Kolor Kandy video. Just remember to do some test panels. You can use old signs or new sign blanks. Hope this helps and you came to the right site these guys know everything.
