Help with ghost emblems

I'm tired of clearing over "harley emblems" on gas tanks. What's the best way to airbrush one on, like the ghost emblems on this website? Is there a template available out there that will make life easier??? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Yeah, just go to your local sign/vinyl shop and have one cut out of "gerber mask" or whatever brand of stencil material they use , then use a white or silver pearl mixed with intercoat clear as a mid coat.

Thanks Austin. Will the stencil be a one time use, or a decal I guess, that I will pull off. I am just a little confused on how it works. If it is a decal, each individual part will need to be removed when I'm done instead of one piece. Is this right, since the parts that are to be airbrushed are not touching each other, I dont see any other way it could work.

Yes, its a one time use. You apply the stncil (its not the same material as a regular sticker it removes easy without glue residue) spray on you color of choice, let it dry then peel off the stncil (at this point its just like used tape, throw it away.) and clear coat the entire tank.

It aint a decal. Its a free hand template, right yall? If i understand it right, you would basecoat, inner coat clear, ghost the bar and shield with clear and whatever color of pearl, inner coat clear and shoot your ghost flames and then final clear. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong I havent tried this yet but its on the list. AL

They do make free hand stencils, but thats not what I'm talking about. Free hand stencils don't work quite as good. The material is cut just like a decal, but its a different material. Its made low tack and the glue doen't come off on the tank your trying to paint. I use these stencils all the time for any lettering, because the cut is perfect.

Thanks for the info guys. One more question, what is the difference in a intercoat clear from regular clear? Can you use a standard clear with pearl to do ghost emblems/flames?

Intercoat clear can't be used as a topcoat. Usually you can mix candies, pearls with this clear. Baseically it's a 'basecoat' clear.
