hey new to the forum, have painted my motorcycle before with single stage urethane but still fairly fresh with custom painting.
i just ordered hok black base coat, hok white/silver marbilizer, sg100 intracoat clear, tangerine kandy, and clear...
my questions are
1_ does the paint dry with the marble effect or is saran wrap necessary?
2_can i paint in the above order on the bare metal starting with the black basecoat (bc 25) or do i heed a primer?
3_can anyone advise me on how many coats of each should be sprayed?

thanks alot in advance!
very excited for this project hope it works out, have a friend whos experienced i may get assistance from

Hello,
Welcome to the forum.
You will need to prime and resand the metal.
Then you "should" seal with the KS11 sealer.
Then basecoat.
Then marble (use saran wrap)
Then you need to spray an adhesion promoter (see the HOK marble instructions).
Then you can candy
Then clear.

Marble has bad adhesion properties which is why you need the adhesion promoter

thanks taz,
have seen that the marbilizer is supposed to be really light/watery.. any recomendation for amount of layers for each paint or time between?
never done much with the colors layered dont want it to hide anything or just be tangerine in the end.
also a little fuzzy with the saran wrap concept.. do i just bag it with an air pocket and let it dry a few minutes and slide it off??
cant find alot about the process
thanks

Just spray a wet coat, but not real wet.
It says to let it sit a little bit before applying anything for your effect, but normally we do it right after we spray.
The marbleizer that we use isnot real runny. It's like spraying a basecoat. We use the House of Kolor line.

As far as using saran wrap, it's all personal preference on what you use to get an effect. The most common is the saran wrap.
Just spray the marble on. Then apply a flat sheet of saran wrap. As you lay on the wrap, it will wrinkle on you which gives the marble it's effect. Normally, once the saran wrap is on, we apply pressure to it. Then let it sit for about 15 seconds or so. Then remove it.
Fairly easy to do, BUT I have seen some botched attempts at painters doing the marble effect.

does one solid coat of each paint sound good?
and do i still sand each paint layer except the final clear with real fine paper or wetsand?

Assuming you meant the marble for one coat, yes, one good wet coat, but not real wet.

The clear needs to be more than one.

Once you sand the base, you marble, you do the adhesion promoter, then you clear. No sanding between coats.

Be sure and do a little test panel first, so you get the hang of applying the marble and the saran wrap over it. With a little experience you can get some real need effects like pulling the saran wrap very tight, then applying it to the marble. Press down slightly, then lift it off.

ah, okay, we normally just buy it pre-packaged. So not for sure on the mixing ratio so be sure and check on that.

gotcha.. do you just spray the marbilizer on the base coat and then use sg100? or do you intracoat between basecoat and marbilizer as well?
