I have been reading up over the last month on painting. I want to paint my bike with flames. I want to know if you really need an expensive gun for a good job. I see so many guns on ebay are any of them ok for minimum use. I just want it for my own use with decent quality. Are any of the cheaper guns like Cal-Hawk $40 to $50 range decent? Thanks for any info.

I use a gravity fed Devillbis finishline,$100.00 works pretty good.Should of gotten the HVLP version,I see alot of money blowing in the wind,HVLP lays down more material. Any old gun will work for a small job,you may just have to sand more.

i disagree with your job is as good as your gun. technique and knowledge has all to do with the finished product. any body with a couple of hundred bucks can buy a mid priced gun, but that dosen't make you a painter.

I use a Devilbiss Finishline II conventional as well. I've been real happy with the results. No problems at all here.

Like EZ said,it's not the gun but the operator.I've owned several 'copy' guns and they laid out nice jobs. The trick is atomization to get thin coats and quick coverage. The cheap gun actually sprays better than my good gun when it's in dyer needing of a teardown and clean.
