You guys are killing me! I'm following the flames how to and just purchased about $50 worth of 1/8 and 1/4 in 3M fine line blue tape. Then I read some of the old posts and find out that it's no good. Hey Scott why haven't you changed the directions?

BTW this is my first post and first attempt on flames. Using Omni (cheap) line so after I screw up a few times it won't cost me so much.

I will use black basecoat then 1 coat clear to help with the screwups. Will wetsand before taping. Will I have any problems clearcoating if a few days later?

Sonny,
Keep in mind, those were old posts. I would think that 3M has corrected the problem by now. Try your tape out...if it doesn't work, take it back

Thanks Scott. Scared me. I thought that I had wasted my time and money. Great site.

I plan to apply basecoat and one coat of MC161 before I flame. Am I going to have a problem with this first coat of clear if it's a couple of days before I apply remaining clear coats?

Love this site! Grew up in a body shop but haven't kept up with the new products. Great bunch of Bros. Keep up the good work!

Welcome Sonny.Lately I've had good luck with the blue but the sides of the roll are really sticky now.I haven't pulled a bad line or had glue remain but it bugs me.I'm not familiar with that clear but I'd rather put 2 on.If you need it thin reduce down your clear a little and just wet each coat instead of laying down a nice wet one, you'll end up with enough to lightly sand and keep enough thickness to avoid problems.
