Hello friends,

This is my first post and I would like to ask a few questions about equipment and materials to start my first little project.
I'm planning to paint the tank of my motorcycle and add flames before the clear coat...My question is, What kind of primer, paint for the base color and of course what type of paint for the airbrush should I buy?
I already have some knowledge about the techniques for painting, fading and masking, but I never did any work on metal.
About the equipment, which is everybody's favorite airbrush? For multi purpose...I mean something I'll be able to use around for many different projects after the bike is done.

Any info will be highly apreciated...As I said I'm new here so I hope i didn't disturb anybody with the long post.

Carlos.

I have been airbrushing for about 7 years but just got into the custom "auto" paint arena myself... I guess it all depends what your budget is like.... A sandable primer would work for you but I think the best is an expoxy primer. You probably want to go with a base coat/clear coat system (Acrylic Urathane paint)... any of the better known names (dupont, ppg, house of kolor etc...) have great products..... As for equipment go with an Iawata airbrush, something like a HP-C... Its a great all around brush, a little spendy compared to a paashe but youll have it for the rest of your life... Make sure you put a solvent proof needle bearing (O ring) in it though. For larger coverage (like the base color for you tank) I would get a touch up gun-they only run $30-40 and will cover fairly well for med to small jobs-though I wouldnt want to do a car with one... Youll need a compressor and air lines if you dont already have one and a good water trap... Read as much as you can on this site and youll get a good feel for what you "need" and what is nice to have... Call auto repair shops, paint stores etc... and talk to the painters there. They are useually willing to help you out and answer questions.... I hope some of this helps........ Im no expert though and there are quite a few of them on this site that might have better info..... Oh yeah, sorry about the spelling I suck at it.
