If I understand correctly, you are trying to eliminate the edge around the flames with your clear? If so, then when the clear has cured (next day) use 1500 grit sandpaper and carefully sand the edge until it is almost gone. If you can do this step and eliminate the edge without sanding to the paint, then all you have to do is buff it back to a high gloss. If you are afraid to sand to the paint, then I would sand as far as you are comfortable, shoot it with one more round of clear, let it set up and sand it smooth after that. A little time consuming, but not as much as if you were to accidentally sand to the paint and have to touch up or redo your flames.
